If your network does not appear on the network selection screen, please try selecting Other and manually entering your network name (SSID) and password. We have seen this to be necessary on occasion. We are investigating an intermittent issue where the device connects to WiFi, showing Ready on the display, but does not correctly appear in the app. If this happens, please contact us and we’ll be able to help.
I'm getting "Couldn't Connect to Device"
Typically, the phone/device you are using to set up the OnlyCat device will automatically connect to the OnlyCat after scanning the QR code. We are investigating an intermitting issue where this doesn’t automatically occur. A work around, in such instance, is to manually connect to the OnlyCat in your device’s settings.
1. Access your device’s WiFi / network Settings
2. Enable Wifi/ Search for new WiFi networks
3. Select the OnlyCat network (‘OnlyCat-xxxxxx’)
4. Back in the app, select the retry button
Once you’re connected to your OnlyCat device, you will be able to continue with the set up when prompted with further instructions.
My camera isn't starting when trying to scan the QR code
This is typically because the OnlyCat app doesn’t have permission from your device to access your camera. To fix this, you need to grant the app access to your camera in your device’s permission settings.
*This example is on an android device. The app permissions page on iOS and other operating systems will look different.
1. Camera Startup failure
2. Locate app permissions
3. Grant camera permission
4. Working as expected
I need to reconnect the device to WiFi
This can be done with ease by putting the device back in Wi-Fi Setup mode using the button located next to the USB input on the bottom of the device.
1. Press the button (circled) once to bring up the Setup Menu
2. Press the button again twice to make the selector move down to Wi-Fi Setup.
Press and hold the same button to select.
3. Once in the Wi-Fi Setup menu, you can begin the configuration of your new WiFi by scanning the QR code.
Please NoteSome users have found that adjusting certain Wi-Fi settings — such as using the 2.4GHz band or updating the network security type* — can help with device setup. This is often due to router-specific behaviour rather than a necessary configuration for the OnlyCat device.
*Although OnlyCat is compatible with WPA-3, one or two customers have had success in switching their router to WPA-2 for initial connection.
